Schor was born in 1943 in New York City.  Her parents, Ilya and Resia Schor, both prominent goldsmiths and artists, had fled Poland to Paris under the Nazi threat and emigrated to New York in 1940.  French was the family language, as well as a part of her formal education at the Lycée Français of New York. She was seven years old when she used this cahier.
