Our focus this semester is building a community of Brown undergraduates interested in critical theory, cultural studies, and modern philosophy. We hope to provide CTPers with opportunities to deploy the abstract theoretical discourse developed in classes. The aim is to fashion an environment that is low pressure, accessible, progressive, and (most of all) interesting. Right now, we are working on a few ventures:

  1. Hosting biweekly conversations about current issues ripe for critical interrogation.

  2. Regularly screening popular films, which will be followed by analysis inspired by film theory

  3. Develop a vibrant Brown/RISD community of bloggers in a single online space. Our initial effort, ifProvidence, aggregates the content from the blogs of seven College Hill students.

  4. Produce a “Critical” Critical Review that identifies classes from all departments at Brown that address critical theory.
