Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park was one of most iconic blockbusters of the 1990's, and it strangely pre-imagined its own popular culture success. Set on the island of Isla Nubar, scientists and entrepreneur's have created a theme park that features live dinosaur's brought back to life using sophisticating cloning and cross-species hybridization. When a group of scientists and the park owner's young grandchildren come for a tour, things go wrong, the dinosaur's escape and we see why humans and these terrifying creatures were never meant to co-exist. As pop culture text, this film posits an interesting self-reflexivity in that it reverses the trend of basing theme park rides on movies, by making a movie about blockbuster theme parks. But of course, we all know how this one ends. Jurassic Park: The Ride is available for mass enterntainment in Orlando, Florida.
